Folksonomy & Twitter

My the last 2 months have flown by! The idea of Folksonomy is attractive but I just can't get into it. Every time I sit down to do some work on my De.licio.us account I become overwhelmed with the volume of data there. I'd like to re-organize an re-tag a lot of stuff but it's just so time consuming. My other issue with De.licio.us is that it is so easy to get side tracked. I'll sit down to add tags or whatever and end up an hour later completely lost on other people's info. One link leads to a couple more etc. and I end up with 10 or more browser tabs open. Interesting and frustrating at the same time. I truly don't know where people find the time... Meebo is another thing that looks interesting. I use both AIM and MSN, so maybe Meebo would be a good thing? Or maybe not, I don't need or want another account to check. I use AIM to have video chats with my Dad, who's off traveling in Europe but that's about it. I chat occasionally with my sister and daughter using MSN, but only because they message me (usually). As much as I like and enjoy technology, I really can't get in to this "new wave"... Oh no! I think I just got old ;-)

I'd checked out Twitter a while ago (some friends use it) and was really, well, almost shocked. Many people seem to use it to see what their friends are doing *right now*, like blogging taken to the extreme. All I could think was "when do these people do their work or see their families?" The hpllearning site at least makes sense to me as a tool that could be useful. But I'm still not interested.

...and older and older...

Social software - blessing or curse?

I can see why people find social software attractive, at least at first glance. What I've found is that it's just too much work! I could literally spend hours cataloguing and tagging things, but then it all becomes about the tagging, not what I really enjoy. It's easy to get caught up in things like blogs, RSS feeds etc. but who has the time? The more stuff I add, the less I look forward to dealing with it. Email is bad enough, I already feel guilty not replying instantly to the many emails I get, now I feel guilty because, gosh darn it, I didn't listen to this weeks Quirks and Quarks podcast! I've just gotta fit that in, right after I read my Dad's blog (he's off traveling) and update my own. All those Christmas pictures? I still haven't uploaded my summer vacation photos! Gaaaaaa!!! Speaking of which, I tried out Flickr, and if I wasn't already using online photo software I'd probably use it but, BUT, I already use Google photos (including the free program Picassa which I find to be truly excellent). That way, I just log into my Gmail account, and there it is. Easy to share, easy to download to my desktop, just... easy. Whew! Now if I can just find the time to get my photos up there ;-)
